China’s FDI 2022

According to the Ministry of Commerce, actual Foreign direct investment (FDI) into the Chinese mainland increased by 6.3 per cent during 2022 to RMB 1.23 trillion.


In USD terms, the inflow went up 8 per cent year on year to USD 189 billion.


Specifically, FDI in the manufacturing industry rose by 46.1 per cent year on year to RMB 324 billion, while that in the high-tech service sector surged 28.3 per cent compared to 2021.


In 2022, investment grew by 64.2 per cent from South Korea, 52.9 per cent from Germany, and 40.7 per cent from the United Kingdom.


In addition, European Union investment increased 92.2 per cent in 2022, that from the members of the Belt and Road Initiative grew 17.2 per cent, while the FDI's from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations increased by 8.2 per cent.


FDI into the country's central regions increased by 21.9 per cent, followed by 14.1 per cent in the western regions.
