Italy-China Bilateral Relations 2023

In 2023, Italy and China boosted diplomatic ties with high-profile meetings, continuing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations considering the 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership and the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death in 2024.


Numerous promotional activities have taken place in the diplomatic relations between Italy and China during 2023, according to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal:

 

  • Chinese Premier Li Qiang meets Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (2023-09-09).

  • Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi meets the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Antonio Tajani (2023-09-04).

  • The Director-General of the Department for International Organizations, Shen Bo, meets the Director-General for Political and Security Affairs of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pasquale Ferrara (2023-09-04).

  • The Chinese government's special envoy for the Middle Eastern issue, Zhai Jun, meets the Italian ambassador to China, Massimo Ambrosetti (2023-08-03).

  • The Deputy Director-General of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Li Xiang, accepts the copy of the credentials of the new Italian ambassador to China, Massimo Ambrosetti (2023-05-17).

The missions of Italian operators to China, coupled with active participation in events and fairs, contribute to strengthening the economic relations between the two countries. In 2024, the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Italy will be celebrated, along with the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death. Both countries will have the opportunity to strengthen and promote the stable development of bilateral relations.
