China’s Public Holiday 2022

The General Office of the State Council has recently issued Circular no. 11 (2021) about the arrangement of the Public Holidays in 2022 in the People’s Republic of China.

There are seven legal public holidays, according to the schedule, which are:

• New Year, with a three-day holiday from January 1st to January 3rd;

• Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, one of the longest public holidays in China. The Spring Festival 2022 will be a seven-day long holiday from January 31st to February 6th and will be preceded by two make-up days, on January 29th (Saturday) and January 30th (Sunday);

• Qingming Festival (knowns as Tomb Sweeping Festival) will be a 3-day holiday from April 3rd to April 5th, with a make-up day on April 2nd (Saturday);

• Labor Day, as International Worker’s Day, falls on May 1st, 2022, and will include a 5-day long holiday from April 30th to May 4th. Workers and employees will be back on May 5th, and will work also on April 24th (Sunday) and May 7th (Saturday);

• Dragon Boat Festival, a 3-day holiday from June 3rd to June 5th;

• Mid-Autumn Festival, a 3-day holiday from September 10th to September 12th;

• National Day and the Golden Week, a 7-day long holiday, from October 1st to October 7th, with two make-up days on October 8th (Saturday) and October 9th (Sunday).

Please note that for any employee working during an official public holiday, the employer shall grant no less than 300% of the normal wage that would be paid.
