Malaysia GDP 2025 +5.2%

According to the latest data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the country’s economy expanded by 5.2 per cent year-on-year during 2025, exceeding the official projections of between 4 per cent and 4.8 per cent.

 

GDP rose 6.3 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025 compared to a year earlier, the fastest growth in twelve quarters. On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally asjusted-basis, GDP increased 0.8 per cent during the fourth quarter, compared to 2.7 per cent of the third quarter.


Growth was supported by strong household spending and a broad-based expansion across key sectors.


The services sector expanded by 5.1 per cent year-on-year during 2025, while manufacturing increased by 4.5 per cent. The mining sector surged by 0.5 per cent and construction remained robust, rising by 12.4 per cent.


Exports grew by 6.5 per cent year-on-year in 2025, while imports increased 6.2 per cent during the same period.


The Malaysian government projects GDP growth between 4.0 and 4.8 per cent for 2026.


The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a political and economic union of ten members, has 667 million people and a territory of 4.5 million Km2; is currently the third largest economy in Asia-Pacific and the fifth largest in the World. The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) has a combined GDP of USD 4.2 trillion, according to estimates for 2025.
