Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong met Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on 23 June 2025, in occasion of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Both leaders reaffirmed the strength of bilateral ties, built on decades of friendship and mutual trust. They highlighted the success of joint Government-to-Government projects in Suzhou, Tianjin, and Chongqing as key milestones in their cooperation.
They expressed their commitment to deepening the All-Round High-Quality Future-Oriented Partnership, with a focus on the green and digital economies, financial services, and regional development. They also agreed to launch a Third Country Training Programme to support capacity building among officials from ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste.
The two leaders underscored their support for free trade, multilateralism, and a rules-based international order. Premier Li shared China’s ongoing economic reform plans, while Prime Minister Wong expressed confidence in China’s long-term growth.
They exchanged views on regional and global developments, welcomed the strong momentum in ASEAN-China relations, and looked forward to the signing of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area 3.0 Upgrade later this year.
Several agreements were signed following the meeting, including:
An MOU on legal talent development
Letters of Intent on a senior officials exchange programme and the Third Country Training Programme
A Data Exchange Agreement on intellectual property cooperation
They also noted the launch of a new China-Singapore OTC bond market arrangement, allowing selected Singapore-based banks to offer trading and custody services for onshore RMB bonds, improving international access to China’s bond market.
The visit underscored both countries’ shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation and contributing to regional stability and development.
