Vietnam’s Trade August 2025

According to data from Vietnam’s National Statistics Office, Vietnam’s international trade for the first eight months of 2025 reached USD 597.9 billion, marking a year-on-year increase of 16.3 per cent. Exports rose by 14.8 per cent to USD 306 billion, while imports grew by 17.9 per cent to USD 292 billion over the same period.
Exports in August rose 14.5 per cent year-on-year to USD 43.4 billion, while imports surged 17.7 per cent to USD 39.7 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 3.7 billion for the month, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 2.3 billion for the month.
The United States remained Vietnam’s largest export market, with turnover reaching USD 99 billion in the January-August period, while China continued to be the top source of imports, totaling USD 118 billion.
In its latest economic outlook, the International Monetary Fund projected Vietnam’s GDP growth rate at 5.2 per cent for 2025.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a political and economic union, has a population of 667 million and a territory of 4.5 million km². It is currently the third-largest economy in Asia-Pacific and the fifth-largest in the world. The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) has a combined GDP of USD 4.2 trillion, according to estimates for 2024.
